B’nai Shalom Financial Assistance Procedures

 

B’nai Shalom Day School’s commitment to financial aid supports elementary and middle school students’ families who otherwise would not be able to afford tuition.  Our diverse student body represents the entire spectrum of the Triad Jewish community.    Financial aid is based on demonstrated need.  The primary responsibility for the cost of each student’s education resides with the family and each family is expected to utilize all available sources of support.  Need is determined by SSS (School and Student Service for Financial Aid).  SSS considers gross income, assets, liabilities, and family size.  Interested families may follow these steps: 1. A letter of request for assistance must be sent by regular mail or e-mail to the BSDS Business Office by February 15, 2008.  Include name and address of both parents, name(s) and grade(s) of student(s), and a brief explanation of circumstances.  Include copies of all W-2s and/or 1099s.  Please indicate if you wish to receive a Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS) packet or if you will complete the PFS online at NAIS.org. 2.  Complete (on-line) the PFS, or mail hard copy by February 22, 2008 to:              School and Student Service for Financial Aid              Educational Testing Service              P.O. Box 371478              Pittsburgh, PA  15250-7478 3.  Send a copy of the 2007 IRS 1040 tax return, including all supporting schedules, to the B’nai Shalom Business Office as soon as prepared but no later than April 15, 2008.  All information is strictly confidential. B’nai Shalom Day School is unable to award financial aid until all forms and schedules are processed by the Business Office.  Parents are notified of awards by letter. 4.  To accept the award, parents are required to sign the letter and return it with the first payment to the Business Office by the specified date.  First consideration is given to applications received by the above deadlines.  Applications received after the deadline are processed but are subject to availability of funds.
