Kids' Care Program Overview B’nai Shalom Day School’s Child Care Program is dedicated to providing a sage, nurturing and pressure-free environment for students after the school day.  We recognize the need for children to recharge their energy and to exercise their creative expression, to run, jump and play and, for many, to find a way, in a quiet setting, to organize and complete their homework.  The structure of B’nai Shalom’s Child Care Program is designed to meet these needs.  Its components include the following: 1.  snack time, sometimes prepared by the students themselves 2.  outdoor and indoor free play 3.  study halls for students with homework 4.  child-directed activities, such as organized games, art and socializing 5.  quiet area for reading, storytelling, board games Program Enrollment B’nai Shalom’s child care is available every day that school is in session except for noon dismissal days.  Alternate arrangements must be made for holidays, vacations and teacher work days.  This program is open to the entire community.  Students must be enrolled in PS 2/3 through grade eight to qualify.  It should be noted that the Child Care Program will be unable to retain a student who may present danger to either him/herself or others, or a student who continually disrupts activities to the detriment of the other students of the program as a whole. Information About Extended Day and Kids’ Care Fees B’nai Shalom makes every effort to make child care available to any family requiring this service.  Rising costs of compensation, snacks and crafts have made it necessary for us to increase our rates for the 2007-2008 school year.  The rates you see on the registration form are comparable to those of other programs in our area.  B’nai Shalom’s rates remain extremely competitive, ranging from $4.00 to $7.00 per hour depending on duration and frequency of option selected. All fees must be prepaid. THERE IS A $25 APPLICATION FEE PER FAMILY. Reservations for drop-ins must be submitted in writing 24 hours in advance.  WE ARE UNABLE TO MAKE ANY EXCEPTIONS THIS YEAR.  Drop-ins are accommodated on a space-available basis and must be paid by the day. Punch cards may be purchased in advance. Pick-up The Child Care Program begins at dismissal on school days.  To pick up children, parents must park in the lot and proceed into the building.  Parents MAY NOT park in the driveway in front of the building as this may interfere with Beth David Religious School.  At the end of the day, weather permitting, students will often be outside.  If so, parents may proceed to the playground.  Parents must check in with a staff member and initial the sign-out sheet before taking a child home.  Parents must notify staff of all persons with permission to take their child home.  Child care ends promptly at 6:00 PM. Additional charges at the rate of $1.00 per minute apply if a child is not picked up by 6:00 PM. Snacks Every effort will be made to provide healthy snacks such as popcorn, cheese, raisins, fruit and juice.  Occasionally, the menu will include cookies.  All snacks will be kosher. Homework Policy We now offer a study hall for students as well as "Homework Club." We will not be responsible for the actual completion of homework or its quality or accuracy.  The day care room will not be a quiet study area, but one in which students may ask each other questions, snack or work together on their homework.
